Day and Week Tours
Whether you’re passing through the area, or plan on staying for a week, Upshur County has a lot to offer! Check out some ‘sample plans’ below. Be sure to add different items to your itinerary as you browse the website…..by the time you’re done; you’ll have a long list of things to do and see.
10:00 am: Wake up and grab a coffee & breakfast at the Daily Grind on Main Street. Be sure to take your time and get lost in the relaxing atmosphere.
Noon: Become acquainted with one of the most classic small-town ‘Main Streets’ you’ll find. With antique shops, local restaurants, artist galleries and shops specializing in WV products situated on historic Main Street, you’ll spend the rest of the afternoon wandering.
7:00 pm: Hungry all over again? Try one of seven Main Street restaurants, all cozily placed within our Downtown Buckhannon Historic District.
8:00 am: Get to meet some local farmers, and grab-up fresh, local-grown food at the Farmers Market. Better get there early…..our farmers are true hard-working families who sell in the mornings, and work the rest of the day. Choose from a selection of WV veggies, fruits, meat and canned jellies & jams.
11:30 am: Continuing the WV theme, check out the Hometown Market on College Avenue, where their motto is ‘Think Locally—Act Neighborly’. Here you’ll find a plethora of WV products, and a great lunch……..feel free to take it to-go, and enjoy lunch at one of the nearby parks!
2:00 pm: The WV Wildlife Center is a quick 15 minute drive, and is well worth taking your time! Breathe the fresh air and take a leisurely stroll along a 1.25 mile path through a plush forest while observing native WV wildlife in their natural habitat. Stop by the Wildlife Center gift shop for a souvenir, and then go fishing at a pond stocked with trout, bass, catfish and bluegill.
7:00 pm: By this time, you might be fully exhausted, so grab a quick dinner and relax in your hotel!
9:00 am: Go on an Upshur County driving tour to see our 5 Civil War sites, the beauty of our many scenic landscape and parks. Ever heard of geocaching? Upshur County is full of hidden treasures…..Grab your GPS and discover them!
Noon: After a morning packed full of discovery, stop by CJ Maggies for some hearty food that will revitalize your energy.
2:30 pm: If you really want to get a full view of the area, try the Aircraft Sight-Seeing tours, that will fly you around the area, pointing out significant landmarks.
Day 4 – Day 7
Still want more? Within 30-45 minutes, you can travel to Stonewall Jackson Lake and rent a pontoon boat for a day on the water, tour a living monument the Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, ride a passenger train through WV country-side, and enjoy a live variety show at the American Mountain Theatre & The Gandy Dancer.
