    Fidler’s Mill

First built in 1821 by Daniel Peck, the original mill was a small structure built on four posts along the Little Kanawha River.

The mill was then purchased by William Fidler in the 1840’s along with a 200 acre farm, and it remained in the Fidler family for most of the next 140 years. William, using slave labor, enlarged the mill and built a dam a short distance up stream. A wooden mill race powered a saw mill, and a 20-foot overshot wheel was used to grind grain. Fidler’s Mill is fully operational historical gristmill that is viewable to visitors.

The mill eventually became a community building, an economic center, a social hall, and a primary visual attraction of the area.

We believe in supporting local and regional food systems. Our hope is to serve as a catalyst for people who wish to reclaim the food they eat. Locavore is a new word describing local eating, which has been adopted by a cutting-edge social movement. But the Locavore concept is nothing new. Not necessarily 100 percent local, but predominately local is the way almost all people ate until the past few generations.

The Opera House is a full-service catering facility & entertainment venue housed in 3 Historic structures, located in the Heart of Historic downtown Buckhannon. In the 1930’s these three separate buildings were connected and opened-up on the 1st floor to accommodate the G.C. Murphy Company 5 & 10 store, which operated here through the 1980’s, before giving in to the big box retailers. We have Transformed the space into a Beautiful Event Center with 100-year old hardwood floors, Coffered Ceilings, Exposed Brick, Colorful Lighting & Stylish Decor. We can seat up to 200-Guests for dinner, have an elevated Stage for entertainment and Stylish Bar to get the Party Going. There is a Green Room off the stage with a full bath, wet bar and makeup table to accommodate everyone’s expectations.
