Pond & Lake Fishing

A day fishing on the ponds & lakes of Upshur County will put you in a relaxed state of mind. Take your boat on the waters for a day of fishing, or walk along the banks of a pond – either way, enjoy the fresh air and cast your line.

French Creek Pond: Make this a perfect family outing. Located directly beside the Wildlife Center, the pond and property spans across 2 acres with picnic facilities are available. Bluegill, green sunfish, largemouth bass, and channel catfish provide fair fishing through the summer months. French Creek Pond is stocked with trout once February and bi-weekly March through May.
Directions: 11 miles south of Buckhannon on Route 20 South. This pond is part of the 329-acres of the West Virginia State Wildlife Center.

Stonecoal Lake (Wildlife Management Area): Stonecoal Lake property encompasses 2,985 total acres of forests and hunting opportunities. The lake is 550 acres full of largemouth & smallmouth bass, bluegill, channel catfish, crappie, muskellunge, trout and walleye. Two boat ramps are accessible for use. www.wvdnr.gov/Stonecoal

Blackberry Cottage

The Blackberry Cottage at Mountain Paradise is in the woods overlooking a pond in the mountains of West Virginia. All one level, four bedrooms / two baths with an open living area, gas log fireplace, covered deck and an outside fire pit. Just minutes from the Buckhannon River! The cottage is located 10 miles out the Alexander Road in French Creek.

Opera House

The Opera House is a full-service catering facility & entertainment venue housed in 3 Historic structures, located in the Heart of Historic downtown Buckhannon. In the 1930’s these three separate buildings were connected and opened-up on the 1st floor to accommodate the G.C. Murphy Company 5 & 10 store, which operated here through the 1980’s, before giving in to the big box retailers. We have Transformed the space into a Beautiful Event Center with 100-year old hardwood floors, Coffered Ceilings, Exposed Brick, Colorful Lighting & Stylish Decor. We can seat up to 200-Guests for dinner, have an elevated Stage for entertainment and Stylish Bar to get the Party Going. There is a Green Room off the stage with a full bath, wet bar and make­up table to accommodate everyone’s expectations.
