Swift & White Water

You wouldn’t expect it, but in the right season, Upshur County’s rivers climb to Class III & Class IV rapids. Enthusiasts take advantage of high water seasons and navigate the spectacular runs of the Buckhannon and Middle Fork rivers. Click HERE for a clip of the Buckhannon River at its best.

Buckhannon River has five locations for white water enthusiasts.

• Tenmile to Sago (5 Miles; Class III-IV)
• Alexander to Tenmile (9.3 Miles; Class I-III)
• Pickens to Alexander (13.7 Miles; Class I-III+)
• Star to Alexander (8.9 Miles; Class II-III)
• Helvetia to Newlonton (7 Miles; Class II-III)

Middle Fork River has two locations

• Audra State Park to Tygart River Confluence (7 Miles; Class III-IV)
• Confluence of Laurel Fork to Audra State Park (5 Miles; Class I-III)

Art of Eden Cottage

Art of Eden Cottage and Retreat is located on 74 acres of private land featuring walking trails through the woods, streams and meadows. Mountain spring water supplies the newly renovated kitchen and bath. Currently, we have 2 bedrooms that can accommodate up to 4 guests. Artists, writers, bird watchers and star gazers are welcome. Or maybe you would prefer to read one of the many books available. Escape the city life and dare to be without phone, TV and internet. Disconnect and enjoy nature.

The Buckhannon Dairy Queen is one of the few walk-up Dairy Queen restaurants left and has been a fixture in Buckhanon for 60 years & has inspired visitors to reminisce of the ‘good ole days’.

Dairy Queen is seasonal in Buckhannon, opening early March and closing mid October.

Oren + Folk

Oren + Folk sits on 62 private acres. The barn is located less than 20 minutes from Buckhannon, West Virginia. The 11 acre field can accomodate outdoor ceremonies, yard games, and a bonfire!

Accomodations include tables and chairs for up to 100 people. There are two dressing rooms, two public bathrooms, and one private bathroom connected to a dressing room.
